Fairfield Youth Football and Cheer

Modified flag football is flag football with the additional safety and fun of wearing football pads.  Players wear full tackle equipment (helmet, shoulder pads and football pants).  The goal is to teach proper blocking techniques, ball handling and other football skills. Players also wear flag football belts around their waist and players pull flags off to make a “tackle.”

Why do players wear full equipment (pads) if there is no tackling?
This is not a league without contact. Tackling is not allowed; however, during the flag-pulling process players can and do hit the ground. The equipment is required for player safety.  There is also an added benefit of players getting used to playing with full pads.
Will the FYF modified flag team play other towns?
Yes, the Fairfield County Football League (FCFL) offers modified flag for inter-town play at the third & fourth grade level.
Will modified flag be offered for all grade levels?
Currently, modified flag football is only available for third and fourth grades in the FCFL.

For a better understanding of what Modified Flag looks like here is our highlight film from 2019 season!

2024 Spring Modified Travel Flag Clinic

Modified (MTF) is our fastest growing program for our current 2nd and 3rd graders (rising 3rd/4th in fall).  Players play full pads against area towns with a flag pull still being the tackle.  The spring clinic will allow these ages to practice football skills and agility while getting used to wearing a helmet and shoulder pads.  These are non-contact clinics where all work is done with bags.  If your child can't get enough of football and is already looking forward to the fall season, it is a great way for them to ease into the transition of fall 2024 Modified.

Modified Travel Flag (MTF): Sunday evening’s

Modified will start Sunday 4/8…off for spring break…then back the following week and end 5/19-5/20. Fields and times will be announced once fields are assigned and will typically work with Spring Sports like Baseball and Lacrosse to avoid conflicts when possible.

Spaces are limited, so please register your player as soon as possible. Once we have reached capacity, we will run a 'waitlist'.
